In this sequel to Fallen Angels, Ahriman, one of Satan’s lieutenants appears to reluctant mystic Monsignor Steele to warn him of an approaching danger.

Ahriman recalls the Heavenly battle fought among the angelic hosts leading to Lucifer’s fall. The fates of the victors and the vanquished we all know, but not that of the Impassives who took no side. The Creator banished them to a different place than Hell. Tumkak, leader of the Impassives has found a way back to Earth to become a third force in the struggle for souls and three powers are one too many. It will rekindle a new war among the angels and this time Earth will be the battlefield!
Steele journeys to Otter Point Air Station on Umnak Island with “Izzy” his spiritual contact and Gato, “E’s” physical senses link to this world. He meets old teammates Alexandra Alexandrova and Eddie Murphy and learns every woman on the Island capable of conception (including Alexandra) is pregnant!
Steele returns to Rome using the secret Passetto di Borgo linking the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City with Castel Sant’Angelo seeking the Pontiff’s council. He tells the Pope of Ahriman’s offer to join forces with the Church against Tumkak and the unaligned. The Pope warns a fallen angel cannot be trusted; “They are masters of deceit.”
To aid in Steele’s assignment the Pope loans the Monsignor two items archived in the Vatican Apostolic Library that belonged to King David. Vault caretaker Brother Pendragon tells of their origin then gives Steele the legendary lyre David played to sooth King Saul and Goliath’s sword, reforged as Caesar’s legendary Crocea Mores, but he can offer no clues as to their use.
Ahriman appears to Steele in another vision, repeats his offer of aid and hints at a solution. When Steele again refuses, a petit woman dressed in the habit of a medieval nun appears. Esméralda has come to tell Father Steel the real reason why Tumkak and his kindred have come to Earth and what he must do next.
