Invasion Shemya Island

CONDUCTOR TEASE

Shemya Island is a dot of land located at the end of the Aleutian Island archipelago. According to Major General Claxon, humanity’s future, and all present life on Earth rests on the initial outcome of an encounter with this life form’s first appearance on this 2.73 miles wide, 4.32 miles long scrap of land located some 1,200 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska.

Claxon says this at the beginning of a briefing conducted just prior to his intercept team’s departure for Shemya. The entity is named Progenitor. The previous night this mutated life form has struck again, killing the office scheduled to present this briefing. The woman who helped prepare the briefing materials has now been pressed into service as a briefer and who now must join the team.

Their stated mission: To search and identify Progenitor. The problem: The Progenitor is a shape shifter not only capable of morphing its form, but able to duplicate it’s victim’s most deadly defensive and attack characteristics. No one knows the original shape it took on its first appearance. By going there, the General and his team hope to find and identify the creature who is destroying and replacing all other forms of life and defeat it early in its earliest stage of its development when it is apt to be in its most vulnerable form.

Shemya is populated by 2,000 men. In the early 1960’s no women were assigned to the island.

General Claxon’s first encounter with Shemya Island’s Skeptical Base Commander, U.S. Air Force Colonel Stark. Stark was responsible for several highly secret intelligence units. He and his men are tasked to gather information on the clandestine activities of the Soviet Union and other potential enemies.

In a closed meeting with Stark, Claxon confides he and his has traveled through time itself to confront Progenitor and declares his mission priority supersedes the daily missions the Colonel presides over at Shemya. Claxon and his team have come to prevent something he calls the End Event. The proof, he says is resting on the tarmac of the runway in front of the Shemya Base Operations building; he invites Stark to tour his craft.

Colonel Stark, an experienced Air Force pilot, accepts the invitation, and is stunned by what he sees aboard the craft. Claxon allows Stark to sit in the pilot’s seat, familiarizes him with the ship’s controls and allows him to fly the craft through a series of simulated training maneuvers. The experience leaves Stark with no doubt these visitors are who they say they are. General Claxon identifies the date of the Progenitor’s expected arrival, asks for Stark’s support and proposes how base personnel can assist Claxon’s crew without compromising the Island’s current mission.

Together they prepare for Observation Day #1. What follows is a series of surprises and twists in an unanticipated 3-way struggle for control of mankind’s future left for the reader to discover.
