I was born in Vancouver Washington around midnight, July 1st 1942 and there I stayed till I graduated high school in June of 1960. Somewhere in there I developed an obsession for reading sci-fi and fantasy. I avidly devoured the works of early greats like Asimov, Bradbury and Heinlein but two careers would pass before I’d seriously try my hand at matching the skills of those great pen masters.
The Inside
My first career was in the United States Air Force. I enlisted 12 days after graduating H.S. and remained there till retiring in 1980. Yes, the AF finished raising me. I learned to work with other people. It takes all types. I served with many good men and women with an occasional “stinker” folded into the mix. In the later cases, patience was important … sooner or later either you or they would transfer. You must learn to follow before you can lead. The Air Force was very good to me (some of my friends would say they were too good!) While in, I enjoyed good opportunity I was trained, promoted and earned two college degrees. I learned to write.
The Outside
The fundamentals of life on the inside aren’t all that different from the outside. In either case your bosses take the measure of your ambition, your dedication and your skills. After experiencing a back problem and experiencing relief through chiropractic, I retired from the Air Force to enroll at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa graduating as a Chiropractic Physician in 1984. After passing state and national boards I practiced in Washington State for 25 years, first in private practice and later at Madigan Army Hospital. I then worked a spell as a relief doctor for vacationing or convalescing chiropractors. It was toward the end of this career that I began to try my hand at writing sci-fi and fantasy.
And there you have it; an entire life sketched out in 4 brief paragraphs! So am I a good writer? Well, that’s up to you to decide, isn’t it. I give you fair warning! My stories are free of steamy sexual situations; I do like to educate and inform, so I weave real world information into my plots. So yes, if you read them you’ll be forced to learn something whether you want to or not. Also, I love cats so you’ll find them in many of my works. Others involve clerics and secular characters facing paranormal challenges. Elsewhere in this blog you’ll find short descriptions of my tales and how to find and purchase them on Kindle. I write not for profit but for the pure pleasure of it. I sincerely hope you like what I’ve written.
